The short version

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy something through one of them, EveryFiveDays may earn a commission — at no additional cost to you. Our recommendations are based on independent research, not on which commission is larger, and we say when we think something is not worth buying.

How EveryFiveDays makes money

Affiliate commissions, and at present nothing else.

When we mention a product, the link to it may be an affiliate link. If you follow it and buy, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. That percentage comes out of the retailer’s margin — the price you pay is the same either way.

We do not currently run display advertising, sell sponsored posts, accept payment for reviews, or take money in exchange for a recommendation, a ranking, or a mention. If that ever changes, this page changes first, and anything paid for is labelled as such.

Amazon Associates

EveryFiveDays is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

In plain language: Amazon pays us a commission when you buy something after following one of our links there. Amazon does not review our articles, does not choose the products we cover, and has no idea what we are about to publish.

Where we are today, and where we are going

Today, our affiliate income is primarily Amazon. That is a practical starting point rather than a preference — it is the programme with the widest product coverage across all five of our areas.

We intend to broaden this. As our coverage grows we expect to work with additional affiliate programmes, including retailers and manufacturers who sell products that Amazon carries badly or not at all, and to cover product areas we do not yet write about. Any new relationship will be disclosed here before it appears in an article.

That is a statement of intent, not a list of existing relationships. Where a specific programme is not named on this page, we are not in it.

How affiliate links are marked

You should never have to guess. Every affiliate link on this site carries all three of the following:

• A disclosure on the article itself — a short notice within the article, before you reach any product recommendation.
• A label on the product card — each card carrying an affiliate link says so directly beneath it.
• Machine-readable markup — every affiliate link is tagged rel="sponsored nofollow", which tells search engines and other software that it is a paid link.

Buttons that read Check price are affiliate links. Links to our own articles, categories and pages are not.

What commissions never affect

Four things, specifically:

• What we recommend. A higher commission rate has never moved a product up a list and never will.
• What we criticise. If a product we could earn from is flawed, the flaw goes in the article.
• What we leave out. We regularly conclude that the right answer is to buy nothing, or to keep what you already own.
• What we tell you about the evidence. Where research is thin or contested, we say so — including when that undercuts a product we link to.

Why we do not publish prices

A deliberate choice. Prices change constantly, and a price printed in an article is wrong within weeks — which is worse than no price at all, because a reader may act on it.

Instead, our product cards say what a product is for, and the link takes you to the retailer’s own current price. You always see the real number, on the day you are buying.

What this costs you

Nothing. Affiliate commissions are paid by the retailer out of their own margin. You pay the same price whether you arrive through one of our links, through a search engine, or by typing the address yourself.

You are also under no obligation to use our links at all. If you would rather not, the articles are written to be useful on their own — that is the standard we hold them to, and the reason we would rather earn a commission than take sponsorship.
